Do spells end with the death of the caster? - Gray and White Fish on Gray Sand

I was unimpressed by the performance of Dr Strange in Avengers - Infinity War. He seems to have underused his power as noted in other questions (and responses pointing out why he did not use them).

Having seen Loki stuck between two portals for 30 minutes in Thor Ragnarok I think that this could be yet another way for Dr Strange to get rid of Thanos: opening a portal and letting him travel to the other side without opening that other side.

I was wondering, though, whether spells stop when the caster dies? (this solution would buy at least some time for the Avengers / Guardians to work out a better plan).

According to Doctor Strange himself spells do not end, but are in fact harder to break, when the casting wizard dies.

He says this to Ebony Maw, who threatens to kill him, after finding out about the protection spell on the Eye of Agamotto.

Do spells end when you die 5e?

You lose concentration on a spell if you are incapacitated or if you die. So of the basic types of spell durations, only spells that require concentration will end on death. That said, spells can have their own rules. If a spell specifies a condition that will end it in its description, that condition will end it.

Do spells end?

Yes, spells last for the rest of their duration even if a caster dies. Some sspells that require concentration sometimes have a minimum duration or until concentration ends as their duration, so they could potentially stick around even without concentration being possible due to death.

Can you end a spell in DND?

You can't normally dismiss a spell that you cast unless (a) its description says you can or (b) it requires concentration and you decide to end your concentration on it. Otherwise, a spell's magic is unleashed on the environment, and if you want to end it, you need to cast dispel magic on it.

When can you end a spell?

If you lose concentration, such a spell ends. If a spell must be maintained with concentration, that fact appears in its Duration entry, and the spell specifies how long you can concentrate on it.
