In the TV Series Forever Knight there was this scene used from time to time to depict the transition from night to day. Almost at the center there is a building that seems to have its roof on fire, it is even smoking when the sun rises. You can watch it on this video at 46:19. Here is an image of the same:

Seems that this building is on fire

Is (or was) there such building in Toronto, where the show was produced?

What is that fire supposed to be for (I mean, in real life)?

Agreeing with Kyralessa's comment; I now think this is the much taller Brookfield Place (formerly BCE Place). The spire contains some HVAC equipment and sometimes releases clouds of vapor which are visible in cold weather.

I think that is the Canada Life Building. It has a beacon at the top that forecasts the local weather, but there are no buildings in Toronto with any kind of torch like that that I have seen, and I have lived here a long time.
