What happens to questions that aren't revealed during Jeopardy? - Man in White Long Sleeve Shirt Writing on Chalk Board

Every now and again, we don't get through all of the questions on the board during Jeopardy! Many of these questions have been well researched. So my question is (in true Jeopard style):

This is what happens to questions that aren't revealed during the show

Best Answer

According to this interview with Alex Trebek promoting The Jeopardy! Book: The Answers, the Questions, the Facts, and the Stories of the Greatest Game Show in History:

"We save all unused material, although sometimes an answer that isn't used one day will turn up later under a different category."

Billy Wisse, the head writer for Jeopardy!, says the same in an interview with The AV Club:

AVC: How many questions get thrown out upon review?

BW: Well, in every category one is going to get thrown out, and then there’s always an extra there for emergencies or technical problems. And so two clues out of every seven get thrown out, but they could get used later if you write that same category again or you really like that clue and you want to write around it. So a lot of clues get thrown out, but some of them come back again. But we have thousands and thousands and thousands of unused clues, and most of them will never see the light of day.

Do they reuse Jeopardy questions?

The iconic game show actually does occasionally repeat questions. Even though human knowledge is constantly expanding and new trivia facts are devised all the time, Jeopardy! sometimes chooses to fall back upon previously used questions instead of coming up with entirely new ones.

Do Jeopardy contestants get to read the questions?

Jeopardy only provides contestants with the Prep Center and practice tests on their website. There is no evidence of contestants receiving materials from anyone affiliated with the show. This is a question that is often asked because the contestants are so darn prepared!

What happens if you get a question wrong in Jeopardy?

If they are correct, they get the amount they wagered; if they are incorrect, they lose that amount, and no other team gets a chance to try. The host does not know which question will be the Daily Double, since the choice is randomized by the machine and is different every time.

Do Jeopardy contestants get the categories before the game?

Do they tell you in advance what the categories are going to be on your show, so you can study up? I don't know where people get this idea, but I get asked this all the time. No, you don't see the categories until the second the viewers at home do.
