What has been the effect of being able to fast forward commercials?

What has been the effect of being able to fast forward commercials? - Stormy ocean with foamy waves in daylight

To keep this on-topic, this is not about 'commercials' - rather television production and economic effects (see tag description) of majority viewers being able to skip commercials.

Every person I know who watches television now has the ability to pause/ff/rewind recorded shows. I watch on tv.google, and wait a bit after the show is airing so I can FFwd through commercials, with the exception of sports.

Has there been a noticeable effect in the television industry due to this? e.g. a lesser cost for commercials to air, et. al.

How can fast forward commercials influence viewers?

While digital video recorders and products like TiVo allow television viewers to skip past commercials, Boston College researchers have found that fast-forwarding viewers actually pay more attention and can be influenced by brand images they view only for a fraction of a second.

What is zapping of commercials?

The act of using a remote control to change television channels when an advertisement begins.

Why can you not fast forward on demand?

Unfortunately, the fast-forward option is not available for the on demand section. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of onDemand content. What if I'm half way through a show, stop and comeback? I don't want to watch the whole thing again.

Why are there commercials on demand?

As explained, you set a show to be recorded, but then it appears on-demand and you are forced to watch it on-demand with all the ads. This happened because YouTube had unfavorable contracts with companies like 21st Century Fox, NBCUniversal, Walt Disney Co., etc.
