What is the significance of the Paris back story? - Couple Kissing in Theme Park

In the film "Goddess of Love"...

...the psychiatrist reads a transcript of an incident where Venus ruined a dancer's career by pushing him down a staircase and caused him to become paralyzed.

It appears to be unrelated to the plot and yet is poised to have major significance to Venus' current circumstances. Was it simply a previous episode of psychotic behaviour? Or did the guilt arising from the incident induce her into schizophrenia? Or what?

Note: Venus suffers from profound schizophrenia and some of the plot appear to be visual, audio, and strikingly tactile hallucinations (i.e., erotic) which are presented as real events. We already know she's irrecoverably insane, so how does the exposure of this earlier incident further inform the viewer?

Note: at the time of this question (Feb '16) there is (apparently) no wiki article on this fascinating film to assist the viewer in resolving some of the twists and turns of the plot.

Does Paris have history?

The history of Paris dates back to approximately 259 BC, with the Parisii, a Celtic tribe settled on the banks of the Seine. In 52 BC, the fishermen village was conquered by the Romans, founding a Gallo-Roman town called Lutetia. The city changed its name to Paris during the fourth century.

Why is Paris called Paris?

The name Paris is derived from its early inhabitants, the Parisii (Gaulish: Parisioi), a Gallic tribe from the Iron Age and the Roman period.

How old is Paris today?

Paris is more than 2,000 years old. Gauls of the Parisii tribe settled there between 250 and 200 BC and founded a fishing village on an island in the river that is the present-day Ile de la Cit\xe9 -- the center around which Paris developed.
