Not only Rex, but Chris' mother is shown only once and only when she is dead. We never get to see Rex's face.
Is it intentional, maybe so that the audience focuses on main characters only?

I highly highly recommend it before you read this because it is worth seeing. The film is a bit notorious for its NC-17 rating, and a very "interesting" scene involving fried chicken.
