Why not just use fingerprint identification?

In What Happened to Monday, there're checkpoints in where authorities will verify the identity of each individual by scanning a bracelet that the person wears, and then double-checking their face with the picture on file.

All throughout the movie, the sisters were able to cheat this system simply by making sure only one of them were out in public at a time, so that their bracelets aren't scanned at two different places at the same (or near same) time.

With twins/triplets/etc. not being a foreign idea, wouldn't it have been much better to do a fingerprint scan as well? Given the advanced technology in the film, and the fact that there was already a considerable amount of bio-metric scanning (ex. guns being fingerprint locked, buildings requiring retinal scanning), it seems like this would definitely be possible, and would also offer increased security (since the bracelets seem to have several vulnerabilities).

I feel like this realization makes the movie fairly trivial, since the implementation of such a system would have prevented all but one of the sisters from being able to leave the house, go to school, work, etc..

What are the disadvantages of fingerprints?

Disadvantages of biometric authentication
 • Costs – Significant investment needed in biometrics for security.
 • Data breaches – Biometric databases can still be hacked.
 • Tracking and data – Biometric devices like facial recognition systems can limit privacy for users.

Why fingerprint identification is the most accurate way of identification?

The fingerprint is a very certain method for identifying a person, because all fingerprints are unique. Even identical twins have different fingerprints. Compared with other methods of identification, such as a key, access card, numerical code or a password, the fingerprint is very secure.

Why are fingerprints not secure?

Servers and apps never have access to your fingerprint data, nor is it saved on the cloud. However, although it's incredibly hard for cybercriminals to get access to your actual fingerprint data – since it's encrypted and stored on the device itself – biometric systems are still not completely secure.

Is a fingerprint more secure than a passcode?

On the whole, a good, strong password is more secure than fingerprint recognition software. Fingerprints cannot be altered if they are compromised, nor can they be altered between different accounts or devices. Fingerprint scanners can be easily hacked, even with everyday items such as play dough.
